A few new goodies for our growing list... from Handel's Messiah: the very famous Hallelujah Chorus and Rejoice Greatly also Zadok the Priest. And to complement our lovely arrangement of Elgar's Chanson de Matin (arranged by Bill Thorp) we have just added Thorp's take on Chanson de Nuit. Finally to celebrate the recent Purcell weekend on Radio 3 we've included wonderful arrangements of Strike the Viol and Sound the Trumpet great companion pieces to an old favourite the Rondeaux from Abdelazar. Ooh I may be about to have a little Purcell moment...
We have fantastic new facility on our website... you can now check our availability for your date live online using the CALENDAR page.
And fear not if your date appears to be busy please do get in touch we may be able to find some extra players or even tuck you in around other gigs. Very advance notice that we'll be playing at the wonderful wedding fair at Orchardleigh House in the New Year. It's a great chance to meet, hear us play, talk about your music choices. If you have music you'd like us to play just let us know and we'll programme it on the day. Glorious George Pritchard will be there to take your details while we're busy playing. Make sure you grab one of us in a break between tunes to discuss any of the music you have planned. We'll have demo CDs, cards and information with us.
Looking forward to our next gig playing at the Great Hall Longleat House for a group visiting from Moscow. I've never been to Longleat House (even though it's right on my doorstep) so it's a bit thrilling to be invited to play there. It's always amazing to play in historic houses which would have been built around the time of some of the music we're playing. Playing chamber music in a real 'chamber' just feels fantastic... We played Bach and Mozart in the ballroom at Marston House a few weeks ago and the acoustic and the atmosphere were just tremendous.
Thanks Matt and Kelly for inviting us to play for you at Guyers House, we were thrilled and privileged to be there. And huge thanks also to the staff at Guyers House who kept us fed and watered and were so kind.
...and we were just talking about some of our favourite venues. We've played at some wonderful venues this year and enjoyed performing for you all so much. Thanks to: Orchardleigh House, St Mary's and Lullington Churches, The Longhouse at the Mill on the Brue in Bruton both fantastic, idyllic, romantic settings. Also we've loved travelling a little bit further west, to Goathurst near Taunton where we played at both Halswell House (terribly grand) and Huntstile Organic Farm (a warm welcome and stunning garden, views and buildings). And further eastwards we've played at Lackham House and Guyers House, both near Corsham and both splendid venues. And we can't forget the amazing atmospheric Bradley House in Maiden Bradley which, only ten minutes drive away, is our nearest venue. We're hoping to visit Gants Mill in Bruton and Charlton House in the New Year. Roll on the Winter wedding season!
Fantastic rehearsal with Pee Wee last night. He is brilliant! We're working hard to keep up but it's great fun and it sounds wonderful, warm, sumptuous, delicious! We'll be performing three new arrangements: Autumn Leaves (by Azhaar), Little Sunflower and Georgia (both by Seona). Join us at Marston House - Sunday 18th October
Coming up this Sunday 18th October... we'll be playing at Marston House from 2pm, a couple of sets of our usual mixture and a special one-off performance with Pee Wee Ellis. All part of a Grand Tea Party and Charity Auction to raise funds for the Premature Baby Unit at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. Tickets on the door I think!
We were back in Goathurst this weekend for a fantastic trio gig at Huntstile Organic Farm - a great venue - really welcoming and friendly. The cakes were pretty fantastic too. We've put together a completely new repertoire list for String Trio, it features some of our quartet favourites and lots of new including the Bach Double violin concerto, Sonatas by Corelli and Handel and three volumes of glorious Haydn trios.
